The non-partisan election of city officials shall be conducted in all respects as provided by the laws of Kansas governing the holding of city elections.

At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., unless different hours are set and publicly announced by the county election officer.

Mayor and Council Members shall serve staggered four-year terms, and terms must commence on the second Monday in January following the certification of the November election for that office.

(a) The term of office for newly elected city officials shall commence on the second Monday in January following certification of the election.
(b) Every person elected or appointed to the city office, before entering upon the duties of such office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as specified in K.S.A 54-106, and amendments thereto, and every such oath or affirmation shall be filed with the City Clerk.

Any person desiring to become a candidate for city office elected at large shall file with the county election officer, before the filing deadline, established in K.S.A. 25-205, and amendments thereto, a declaration of candidacy on a form furnished by the county election officer as specified by the secretary of state. The nomination petition must be signed by twenty-five of the qualified electors of the City of Haven.
